Prepared by: Charlie Thomson, The Educator and Shakespeare Rap Artist!
For: Years 4-9
Attendees: 20
Day: Thursday
This workshop will cover various aspects of songwriting, recording, performing and hip-hop culture. Students will learn about the history of hip-hop, the four elements of hip-hop culture and some of the genre’s pioneers.
Students will discover new songwriting techniques, including analysing and utilising poetic devices, understanding song structure and rhythm/timing.
Throughout this workshop, students will develop the skills to write their own verse/rap, improve their performance skills and contribute to a collaborative hip-hop track, known as a “cipher”. The workshop will be split into two sections, with the morning session focusing on writing and constructing songs and the afternoon focusing on recording and performance.
Students will be able to have a copy of the completed cipher sent to them.
Charlie wowed the crowds as a guest performer at last year’s Imagen8 Festival and is back by popular demand to conduct rap-writing/recording workshops at this year’s event.
